4-H and FCE news

The Vinland Valley 4-H Club met Jan. 8 at Vinland Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order by Amy Stone, president.

Guests at the meeting were Skyler Norton and Kyle Norris. Members answered roll call by naming their best Christmas gift. Minutes were read by Misty Emory, secretary.

Jennifer Tuley gave the treasurer’s report. Communications were read from Emily Morehouse at the extension office.

A council report was given by Conner Nottingham. Reports from leaders were given by Sandy Stone and Ladina Miller. Under new business, the club set ski trip dates for February.

Talks were given by Paris Nottingham and Regan Zaremba, horse project members; and Amanda Miller, Misty Emory and Amy Stone, on beef. The club gave a thank-you cake to Sandy Stone for her service as the Vinland community leader.

Next month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Vinland Methodist Church. Host families will be the Ikenberrys and Zamans.

¢The Family and Community Education Council met Jan. 9 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Agent Susan Krumm discussed several programs: Personal Action to Health, Tuesday and Thursdays, April 3-26, at the Indian Hills Church of God, 601 W. 29th Terrace; a Walk Kansas event; and a new Master Food Volunteer program, Feb. 15-April 19. For more information, contact Krumm at 843-7058. Alvinia Tuggle announced that the spring awards tea will be April 20.

Darlene Bright, Red Cross cookie chairwoman, announced that the next blood drive will be Feb. 27 at First Christian Church.

President Myrna Hartford announced that the Men’s Health Program has been changed from Feb. 16 to Feb. 14.

The council decided that promoting health will be the all-unit project for 2007.

Hartford installed officers for 2007: Margaret Fuston, president; Judy Wulfkuhle, vice president; Genny Hunsinger, secretary; Charlene Winter, treasurer; and Darlene Bright, public relations.

The next council meeting is set for 9 a.m. March 6 in Deal Six Auditorium.
