Newman overcomes HINU women’s lead

? Shanda Murdock had 13 points and six rebounds, and Kortney Smith added 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Haskell Indian Nations University from dropping a 62-59 women’s basketball decision to Newman on Friday night.

Haskell led by seven, 32-25, at halftime.

“That’s the worst kind of game to lose, when you’re ahead most of the game,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said. “We wanted to hold the score down a little bit. It was a typical game on the road, where you can’t give anything up.”

Whitney Warrior added nine points for Haskell, and Shara Brown scored eight.

Haskell (9-11) will entertain College of the Ozarks at 5:30 Friday evening. The Indians also will play host to Oklahoma Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Saturday.
