Safety first

To the editor:

Considering changes in zoning laws to prevent crime at local establishments is a step in the right direction. The City Commission is at least showing that public safety is a concern.

Last summer, law enforcement officials decided to take a stand against drugs at the Wakarusa Music Festival. They used all available personnel and technology to prove to peace-loving people that they would not allow immoral behavior in our area.

Law enforcement was readily available for 24-hour surveillance, and prosecution of crimes committed at Clinton Lake. Surely, the City Commission will prove that keeping the heart of Lawrence peaceful is, at the very least, as important as keeping our lake drug-free.
