Oklahoma women OK in OT

? Senior Kendra Moore has had few starring moments during her Oklahoma basketball career.

The Sooners are glad the backup point guard picked Monday night to command the spotlight.

Moore scored 13 of her career-high 20 points in extra time as No. 6 Oklahoma held on to beat Texas Tech, 86-81, in double overtime.

Courtney Paris recorded her 45th straight double-double, finishing with 22 points and 17 rebounds for Oklahoma (16-1, 6-0 Big 12), which extended its winning streak against conference opponents to 25 games.

But during the overtimes, Moore – not Paris – became the Sooners’ go-to player.

Moore, who entered the game averaging 3.6 points, scored all seven of Oklahoma’s points in the first overtime. With the game tied at 81 in the second OT, it was Paris handing the ball off to Moore on a pick-and-roll and Moore slicing through the lane for a layup with 34.4 seconds left.

At 5-foot-5, Moore “may be the smallest person in the building,” Paris said, “but she took the ball to the hole and made it count.”

At the other end, Oklahoma’s starting point guard, Britney Brown, stole the basketball from Texas Tech freshman Jordan Murphree as she rose to shoot. Brown hit two free throws with 11 seconds left – her first points of the game – and added another free throw in the final second to seal the win.

Moore’s heroics against the Lady Raiders drew comparisons to the last game in which she stole the spotlight – a 73-70 win last season at then-defending national champion Baylor, in which she hit two three-pointers in the final 16 seconds.

“I thought that (Moore) really took it to us at the end,” Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry said.
