Lawrence high-schoolers finalists in art contest

Three students from Lawrence High School and two from Free State High School had artwork chosen as finalists in the “Kansas … As Beautiful as You Think” Art Competition. From LHS, Katie Kennedy’s “Isabelle” and Dylan Smith’s “Untitled” are finalists in the black and white photo category, and Gina Skinner’s “Homeword Bound” is a finalist in the color photo category. From Free State, Sarita Mahinay was recognized for pastel landscape, and Katy Hoffman was chosen in the color photograph category for the image above. The finalists will have their images framed and displayed at the Kansas Native Sons and Daughters High School Art Competition judging in Topeka. Winners will be announced in time for Kansas Day on Monday. Additionally Free State senior Ayo Alston-Moore received an honorable mention in the Utrecht Art Supply Portrait competition for her pastel self-portrait. She was chosen from a field of more than 600 entries.
