Indonesia ? An earthquake rattled northeast Indonesia Sunday.

There were no immediate reports of casualties and no tsunami warning. But three people were hurt when a church was damaged, witnesses said.

The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3.

The earthquake struck in the Molucca Sea about 100 miles east of Sulawesi Island. The epicenter was about 80 miles from the city of Ternate. The quake had a depth of more than six miles below the ocean floor. It was large enough to cause a tsunami, but no warning was issued.

Indonesia is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin. In December 2004, a massive earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Sumatra island and triggered a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people.
