Bruins hand Wildcats third straight Pac-10 loss

? Arron Afflalo’s defense held down the Pac-10’s leading scorer, and Darren Collison’s acrobatic penetration tore holes in Arizona’s zone, leaving the 11th-ranked Wildcats in tatters.

Afflalo scored 22 points, and No. 3 UCLA won, 73-69, on Saturday, sending Lute Olson to his first three-game Pac-10 losing streak in 22 years.

Darren Collison added 14 points and seven assists, Michael Roll had 13 points, and Alfred Aboya grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds for the Bruins, who improved to 15-0 in Pauley Pavilion dating to last season.

“Collison is the key to their whole ballclub,” Olson said. “He just puts a lot of pressure defensively, gets a lot of steals, puts a lot of pressure on the defense to keep him out of the lane, and (he’s) very, very quick.”

Ivan Radenovic scored 21 points, and Marcus Williams added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Arizona. Williams’ 18.5-point average topped the Pac-10 coming in, but dipped thanks to Afflalo’s defense.

No. 1 Florida 79, Mississippi 70

Gainesville, Fla. – Joakim Noah had two momentum-changing baskets down the stretch, finished with a season-high 24 points and helped Florida avoid a near collapse.

The defending national champions led 53-28 early in the second half and looked like they would cruise to their 10th consecutive win. But the Rebels used a 29-11 run over a 10-minute span to make it a close game in the final eight minutes.

No. 2 Wisconsin 71, Illinois 64

Champaign, Ill. – Kammron Taylor scored 20 points, and Wisconsin closed with a 10-2 run.

Alando Tucker had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Badgers.

Shaun Pruitt had a career-best 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Rich McBride added 15 points for the Illini, who led 62-61 with 2:06 remaining.

No. 4 North Carolina 77, Georgia Tech 61

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Tyler Hansbrough scored 24 points, and North Carolina held Georgia Tech to its lowest-scoring game of the season.

Reyshawn Terry had 16 points for the Tar Heels, who used a 25-10 second-half run to pull away for their 14th win in 15 games and join Kentucky as the only NCAA schools with 1,900 victories.

No. 7 Ohio State 82, Iowa 63

Columbus, Ohio – Greg Oden had a career-high 29 points, hitting 12 of 13 shots from the field, to lead Ohio State.

Oden also hit all five of his free throws while shooting left-handed and had 10 rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

No. 9 Oregon 92, California 84

Eugene, Ore. – Aaron Brooks scored 22 points to help Oregon rally past California.

Brooks hit three three-pointers in the second half.

No. 10 Alabama 78, Georgia 76

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Ronald Steele’s off-balance jump shot as time expired completed Alabama’s comeback from an 11-point deficit over the final 4:35.

Alonzo Gee had 21 points to lead Alabama.

No. 13 Air Force 56, San Diego St. 51

Air Force Academy, Colo. – Jacob Burtschi scored 23 points as Air Force held off a late surge for its 26th straight home win.

Air Force’s leading scorer, Dan Nwaelele, finished with 11 points, including a shot that regained the Falcons’ lead for good with 45 seconds remaining. Nick Welch finished with 10 points.

No. 14 Duke 79, N.C. State 56

Raleigh, N.C. – Jon Scheyer scored 20 points, and DeMarcus Nelson added 15 for Duke.

Josh McRoberts and Greg Paulus each finished with 13 points, while David McClure had 10 for the Blue Devils, who have won three straight.

New Mexico State 80, No. 15 Nevada 73

Las Cruces, N.M. – Justin Hawkins scored a career-high 29 points and had 11 rebounds to help New Mexico State snap Nevada’s 10-game winning streak.

Arkansas 72, No. 16 LSU 52

Fayetteville, Ark. – Steven Hill scored a career-high 16 points as Arkansas rolled to an easy win.

The Razorbacks had lost three straight since beating then-No. 8 Alabama earlier this month. They ended the skid with a resounding win over another ranked team.

No. 17 Memphis 61, East Carolina 44

Greenville, N.C. – Jeremy Hunt scored 16 points to help Memphis remain unbeaten in Conference USA play.

Doneal Mack added 15, and Robert Dozier had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who shot just 31 percent from the field.

No. 18 Butler 80, Wisconsin-Green Bay 59

Indianapolis – A.J. Graves, back in the starting lineup for the first time in three games, scored 28 points and raised his nation-best free-throws streak to 63 in a row for Butler.

Graves hit his first four shots and scored 21 points in the first half as the Bulldogs pulled away.

No. 19 Clemson 74, Boston College 54

Clemson, S.C. – Cliff Hammonds scored 17 points, and Clemson took advantage of Sean Williams’ absence, handing Boston College its first ACC loss of the season.

The Tigers were coming off two straight losses after starting 17-0 as the country’s last Div. I unbeaten.

No. 22 Tennessee 64, South Carolina 61

Knoxville, Tenn. – JaJuan Smith scored 21 points, and Wayne Chism added 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Tennessee end its three-game losing streak.

The Volunteers had lost three in a row by a total of six points and avoided losing their fourth straight despite the loss of Chris Lofton.

Vanderbilt 72, No. 25 Kentucky 67

Lexington, Ky. – Derrick Byars had 23 points, including 12 on three-pointers, and Vanderbilt got its third straight win against Kentucky and its fourth win against a ranked opponent this season.
