Veritas girls figure out Cair Paravel

? At first glance, the Veritas Christian girls basketball team wasn’t too happy about playing Topeka Cair Paravel in its third game at the Elwood Invitational on Saturday.

“They had beaten us twice this year,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “To play a team in your league in a tournament, especially a team that has dominated us, we were a little apprehensive.”

The Eagles answered the challenge, winning for the first time in their history against Cair Paravel, 50-37.

Kristie Tiegreen dominated the post, scoring 27 points and pulling down 34 rebounds – 21 on the defensive end.

“Kristie just played her heart out in this game,” Shelton said. “And Susan Wilson played aggressively on the defensive end and really did some good things passing the ball in to Kristie.”

Wilson was Veritas’ second-leading scorer with eight points.

The watershed victory improved the Eagles’ record to 4-7. They will travel to Hyman Brand on Monday.
