Lawrence’s chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is one of seven state organizations awarded a big-game permit during a drawing conducted by Wildlife and Parks.

Two Ottawa chapters – Friends of NRA and NWTF – also were among the seven winners drawn from among 119 organizations submitting applications.

The Lawrence chapter of NWTF received an elk permit while the two Ottawa groups were awarded deer permits.

Winners purchase the permits and typically auction them off at their respective conventions and banquets in order to raise funds for conservation projects.

Last year’s seven winners raised $49,000 for conservation projects in Kansas.
