From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan 17, 1907: “Congressman J.D. Bowersock of Lawrence is opposed to the movement to draft Theodore Roosevelt for a third term and refuses to get involved with the group promoting that development. He says his first presidential vote was for Abe Lincoln, his last for Roosevelt, but he adds he is not in favor of another term for Roosevelt. : Cy Leland and Charles Curtis have control of who will be named to fill Curtis’ term in the U.S. House. Curtis was chosen by caucus to fill a Senate term and is sure to be elected for a full term. The choice for his House successor will be interesting. :The earthquake disaster in Jamaica grows and the toll of death is now past 1,200. Thousands are hurt and witnesses say the suffering is immense. : Broer Gustafson, the popular young jeweler, has decided to move his rapidly growing business to the Loey Building in the 900 block on Massachusetts.”
