Jayhawks stellar at Illini Invite

? Senior Adrian Ludwig, sophomores Ashley Brown and Zlata Tarasova and freshman Britany Parker were among a host of participants on the Kansas University men’s and women’s track teams to claim victories Saturday at the Illini Invitational in Champaign, Ill.

Ludwig captured the men’s mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 22.10 seconds.

Joining him in the winner’s circle was sophomore Egor Agafonov, who claimed the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 68 feet, 61â2 inches; Jack Sachse, who won the 800 meters in 1:53.28; and Paul Hefferon, who won the 3,000 in 8:21.32.

Team scores were not kept for the men’s half of the meet.

For the women, Brown, a 2007 team captain, won the 60-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 8.65 seconds. Tarasova won the weight throw with a toss of 56-71â2; Parker posted a provisional NCAA mark while winning the pole vault with a leap of 12-111â2; and Stephanie Horton won the shot put with a distance of 50-03â4.

The KU women finished second among four schools in the team standings with 149.33 points.

The Jayhawks will return to the track Saturday when they host the Jayhawk Invitational at Anschutz Pavilion.
