Dr. Jay Kennedy, Lawrence, recently had his paper “The Petzl S61 NEST Rescue Stretcher” published in “Alpine Karst.” The publication emphasizes exploration and study of caves and karst, which are limestone regions with sinkholes, underground streams and caverns, in the alpine, mountainous regions of North America and the world. His paper details the features of a French litter designed to allow evacuation of injured explorers from narrow, deep, vertical caves. He also outlines modifications to increase the safety of the device.

Kennedy also presented his paper at the annual convention of the National Speleological Society in Bellingham, Wash., last year, when he was elected vice president of the organization’s cave rescue section. Kennedy is a family practice physician at Advantage Medical Group, 1104 E. 23rd St.
