The two Carlyle Smiths of the Kansas University faculty joked in a Journal-World interview about the many cases of mistaken identity in which they had been involved. Carlyle S. Smith was a professor of anthropology while Carlyle H. Smith was a professor of design and also specialized in Latin American studies.
