Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan 12, 1907: “The Victor Suspender Manufacturing Co. is one of the most successful industrial operations in Lawrence and is reported to be planning expansion. That will mean more good jobs, officials say. Generally, business and industry here are doing well as the new year unfolds. : The race issue has been discussed as Oklahoma and the Indian Territory plan for statehood and the latest ruling is that there can be no intermarriage between whites, negroes and Indians. Apparently, that is the last word at the constitutional convention in progress in Guthrie. : Nearly the whole eastern end of Kansas is now using natural gas for light, heat and cooking fuel. Lawrence has had natural gas only a little over a year and was one of the first towns in the state to get it through a long pipeline. It has been widely embraced here.”
