School organizations merge resources
An organization that raises funds for Lawrence’s public schools will start working more closely with a group that works to build business partnerships with local schools.
The Lawrence Schools Foundation and Lawrence Education Achievement Partners will combine staff and resources, said Susan Esau, who will serve as executive director for both organizations.
When Sarah Klingele, former LEAP director, resigned last summer after having a baby, the school district considered whether to replace her or to look at another option, Esau said.
“So they looked at a way to not only share staff and resources but form an alliance that would be more effective and efficient in getting the public involved in supporting public schools,” Esau said.
Esau said at this time the organizations will continue to maintain their respective boards and keep their own names.
The Lawrence Schools Foundation will continue to raise money for districtwide programs, and LEAP will continue to build relationships with businesses and specific schools or groups of schools, she said.
