Acquisition of land for flood protection in North Lawrence was listed as a priority project by City Manager Ray Wells as the new year began. The City Commission had authorized condemnation proceedings on a 38-acre tract in Jefferson County, to be the first flood protection site acquired since the city authorized $750,000 in March 1965 for that purpose. The work was to cost about $5 million.
