Wolf Pack wins; Fazekas injured

? Kyle Shiloh knew he and his Nevada teammates would be able to handle the loss of star forward Nick Fazekas to an ankle injury late in the first half against Boise State on Monday night.

Marcelus Kemp scored 27 points, Ramon Sessions added 21, and Shiloh helped spark a 9-0 run down the stretch as the 19th-ranked Wolf Pack rallied for a 90-86 victory.

“With Nick out of the game, we had to find a way to score,” said Shiloh, a senior guard who finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

“We’ve got a lot of experience on this team, with Marcelus and me and Ramon all coming back from last year. We know what to do. That’s why they call it a team,” he said.

Fazekas, a 6-foot-11 senior who is one of only five players in the history of the Western Athletic Conference to have 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, had 14 points and nine rebounds when he had to be helped off the court after injuring his left ankle. He returned to the bench on crutches with about seven minutes left in the game.

Sessions was 13-of-16 from the free-throw line and had eight rebounds for the Wolf Pack (14-1, 2-0), who have matched their best start since 1951-52.

“This is a great win,” Nevada coach Mark Fox said. “And to win with Nick sitting out hurt – as a coach, that’s your greatest fear, a guy like that would get hurt.”

Reggie Larry and Coby Karl – son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl – both had 22 points for Boise State.

Fox said he didn’t know if Fazekas would play in the Wolf Pack’s next game, at San Jose State on Thursday night.
