From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan 8, 1907: “A franchise has been granted to the Lawrence Oil, Coal and Gas Co. to pipe and sell gas in the city. It is a new franchise. An ordinance also has been introduced grant-ing a franchise to the Lawrence Electric Transportation Co. This is the much talked of trackless trolley scheme by which the cars are to be run from wires overhead, the same as regular street cars but they have no track to run on. Dr. Murphy and others are behind this scheme. . . . Gov. Hoch sent his message to both houses of the Kansas Legislature today calling for legislators to give Kansas University all the money it asks for because of growing needs. : As W.C. Simons was riding his bike to work today, a dog ran out and bit him on the leg. Police followed the animal and shot and killed it because of the recent problems with hydrophobia and rabies here.
