She was separated from her new daughter for days until Thursday night, when Dee Steinle was finally released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was able to hold Nora, Lawrence’s New Year’s baby, who was born 12:29 a.m. Monday. Nora is still at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and could be released today, said Michael Steinle, Nora’s father and Dee’s husband.

Dee Steinle, who is the administrative director of masters programs at Kansas University’s School of Business, underwent an emergency Caesarean section shortly after she went into labor.

Nora needed help getting oxygen after she was born and was transferred to Children’s Mercy, where she began breathing on her own Monday. Doctors have told family members that Nora has passed all of her neurological tests, her father said.

She also has been feeding. Doctors have watched Nora’s digestive system and tested her liver after she experienced acidosis while she was oxygen deprived, her father said.

“It’s going well. We kept thinking maybe they will let us go … in 24 hours, possibly. I’ve learned not to hold my breath. They are very careful, but it’s good,” he said.

Nora has an older brother, Aaron, who turned 4 this week.
