4-H and FCE news

The Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Ruth Wyatt. Beverly Bourque will give the lesson “Body Talk.”

Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering the program “Cooking Without Recipes” at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 19 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. The program is open to the public, and a minimal fee will be charged. Registration is requested by calling 843-7058 by Friday.

Kaw Valley and India Family and Community Education units will have a joint meeting at 1:15 p.m. Thursday in Building 21 North at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

Hostesses will be Alice Eisele, Darlene Bright and Reginia Shaver. The program will be on making gifts from scraps and old items.

The Stull Busy Beavers started off the new 4-H year with a meeting Oct. 9, and the group enjoyed a potluck supper before the meeting.

Members answered roll call by naming their teachers’ hair color. The program was given by the achievement committee, which recognized all 4-H members in the club for their achievements throughout the year. The new officers ran the meeting.

The group’s Nov. 13 meeting was called to order by Chris Lesser. Judy Jamison led the club in song, Kim Booth read the minutes and Mark Wulfkuhle gave the treasurer’s report. The club celebrated Parents Night as the parents of officers ran the meeting.

The club was presented with a purple seal for meeting its goals for the 2006 4-H year. New 4-H agent Emily Morehouse was present. Project talks and demonstrations were given by Chris Lesser, Autumn Hale and Brenna Wulfkuhle.

The Dec. 11 meeting was called to order by Ashley Lesser, vice president.

Members answered roll call by naming their favorite Christmas carol. Club members brought a favorite holiday snack to share after the meeting. Community service project items were brought to the meeting to be taken to the pediatric unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The Stull Busy Beavers’ next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Stull United Methodist Church.
