Energy vision

To the editor:

On Jan. 3, Gov. Sebelius was quoted as saying, in effect, that anyone who worries about CO2 emissions from power plants and their effect on global warming is simply paranoid. Her own recent environmental initiative was to offer a biodiesel car as a prize for the lottery.

Sounds to me like a graduate of the George W. Bush School of Environmental Studies. I have no hope of leadership from the president in the fight against global warming, but I would expect that our governor would be more enlightened.

Ah, Kansas! Please, governor, leave a legacy that is something more than business as usual. No, fighting global warming will not have much short-term pay back – neither does insulating a house – but we have to start! Americans are willing to make sacrifices when the issues are made clear to them and they are told what they can do to help. This takes leadership. Future generations will curse those who could have led the way and did not.
