Local football fans were grieving over the 10-0 loss by Kansas to Mississippi State in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., but had their pain eased somewhat by a load of New Year's Day games on television. Kansas had entered the Miss-State game without injured quarterback Frank Seurer and never could generate enough offense to threaten its opponent seriously.
