Achievement Place for Boys was about ready to open at 23 E. 11th St. It was a Jaycee-sponsored effort to provide a supervised home atmosphere for boys ages 10-15 from unsettled backgrounds.

A tainted chicken dish was blamed for the outbreak of illness that had hit about 150 residents at McCollum Hall at Kansas University. While many had been treated, there proved to be no serious cases of illness.
