From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 27, 1907: “Many preparations are being made for a boys’ physical education exhibition on March 1. Featured will be gymnastics activities featuring the best athletes available. : Meetings are being held to determine how to eliminate or least minimize the large number of fatal, injurious and costly rail accidents in the region. Missouri has the largest proportionate school fund of any state in the union yet it stands 20th in literacy. Missouri pays a heavy penalty just for being Missouri.”
