City staff members will give details Thursday morning on a summer project that will tear up a chunk of downtown Lawrence to replace a 100-year-old waterline.

Residents, merchants and other downtown dwellers can learn more about the project during the meeting, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

The project will replace waterlines on both sides of the 900 and 1000 blocks of Massachusetts Street and on the west side of the 1100 block of Massachusetts Street, and will disrupt parking during parts of the summer.

Engineers from BG Consultants and city staff members will be at the meeting to answer questions.

yes it is an inconveniance but some of those water lines HAVE to be replaced. i wouldnt be suprised if they were made with lead or some other scary material. I just hope the ones they are replacing them with are more enviormentally sensative for all of our healths sake.
