Palo Alto, Calif. ? The Kansas University baseball team stranded 13 runners Saturday and watched as host Stanford came up with the timely hits instead, and KU suffered a 4-1 loss at Sunken Diamond in the second game of a three-game series.

The Jayhawks (7-3) scored first in the top of the third, using back-to-back singles by Robby Price and John Allman, a walk to Ryne Price and a sacrifice fly by Erik Morrison to grab an early 1-0 lead.

However, that’s all KU would push across despite collecting six hits and seven walks against a quartet of Stanford pitchers.

Meanwhile, KU left-hander Nick Czyz surrendered a single tally in the bottom of the fourth before running into trouble in the bottom of the seventh. Two doubles sandwiched around a sacrifice bunt knocked Czyz out of the game, and the Cardinal (6-5) added two more run-scoring hits against reliever Wally Marciel to finish off the scoring.

Czyz (1-1) allowed three runs in 61â3 innings, striking out five and walking none.

Robby Price and Allman each collected two hits for the Jayhawks.

The two teams will close out the three-game series at 1 p.m. today.
