That’s what Traditional Home magazine says, devoting an amazing 30 pages in the March issue to design and antique shopping in the Motor City: where to stay and eat while you’re there and a survey of architectural highlights and redevelopment. The magazine also profiles two remodeled houses and a garden in the Detroit suburbs.

¢ Seasonal shoe-in: Add the shiny sheen of patent leather to pillows, mirrors or even fabric for sofas and chairs. Elle Decor magazine says patent leather or its synthetic look-alike is a hot trend for spring.

Simply Perfect Storage, a twice-yearly magazine by Better Homes and Gardens on newsstands now, turns a plate rack into an art station, with slats holding construction paper and artwork and small buckets hung on teacup hooks to corral writing utensils.
