Church starts series of Lenten recitals

The Shekinah Arts Ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church presents Lenten Tuesday Noonday Recitals starting this week.

The recital series, titled “Springtime for our Souls,” will feature local organists and students from Kansas University’s music department. Concerts will run from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. Performances also will include readings, Scriptures, visual art and poetry.

Tuesday: organist Sharon Hettinger, director of music for St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo., and Maurice Wright, choir director of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka, flute.

March 6: Laura Palmer, KU student and music director for First Congregational Church, Topeka, organ.

March 13: Carolyn Steele, organist, First Presbyterian Church in Olathe.

March 20: Dina Pannabecker Evans, assistant organist for St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Mission.

March 27: Brian Campbell, KU students and music director for Park Hill Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo., organ.

The Shekinah Arts Ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church fosters the development of the literary arts, the visual arts and architecture, and the performing arts, including music, dance and theater, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
