Jayhawks drop pair in Louisville

? Kansas University’s softball team fell to Kent State, 4-1, and Louisville, 7-1, on Friday at the Red and Black Tournament at Ulmer Stadium.

Freshman Sarah Vertelka (1-2) allowed eight hits, struck out three and walked two in her second complete-game.

Kent’s Brittney Robinson (3-0) struck out 12, walked two and allowed four hits. Sara Ramirez, Stevie Crisosto and Val Chapple doubled for Kansas.

Sophomore Elle Pottorf’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth plated Ramirez with KU’s only run.

Senior Kassie Humphreys (4-1) allowed a season-high eight hits. She struck out five and walked three in five innings versus Louisville. Val George allowed one hit and struck out one in a single inning of relief.

Dougie McCaulley went 2-for-2, walked and was hit by a pitch to lead the Jayhawks.
