De Soto girls dominate on ‘D’

? The De Soto High girls basketball team used a dominant second-quarter run to blast Anderson County, 46-19, Friday night in the regular-season finale for both schools.

The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs, 15-2, in the second period to build a 22-6 halftime lead.

Jackie Goleman led De Soto with 16 points, and Kaylee Spencer added 10.

“I thought we played pretty good defense,” De Soto coach Dwight Spencer said. “That was the key to the game.”

De Soto improved to 9-11 and will travel to Tonganoxie on Tuesday to open Class 4A sub-state play.

Gardner-Edgerton 59, Ottawa 46

Ottawa- Steph Mars scored 15 points, but the Cyclones couldn’t overcome a strong finish by the Trailblazers.

Ottawa enters Class 5A substate play at 14-6 and will play Wednesday in Emporia. The Cyclones’ opponent will be determined today.

Wellsville 43, Eudora 41

Eudora – The Cardinals surrendered a 12-point halftime lead as the Eagles exploded on offense.

Erica Patton scored 20 points for Wellsville (7-13). Allison Braden led Eudora (9-11) with 11.

Eudora will play Kansas City Ward in the first round of Class 4A sub-state play Tuesday at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Tonganoxie 61, Mill Valley 34

Shawnee – Ali Pistora scored 24 points, and Rachel Bogard added 10 to lead the Chieftains.

Tonganoxie (19-1) will play host to De Soto at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Class 4A sub-state play.

Boys

Mill Valley 61, Tonganoxie 43

Tonganoxie – The Jaguars overcame a 10-0 deficit at the beginning of the game to blow out the Chieftains.

Jared Smith and Michael Mahan led Mill Valley (12-8) with 11 points apiece. All of Smith’s points came in the third quarter, when he connected on three three-pointers.

Gabe Belabradjic scored 20 points for Tonganoxie (10-10).

Mill Valley will compete in Class 5A sub-state play Thursday, while Tonganoxie will be in the 4A field.

Eudora 69, Wellsville 56

Eudora – Matthew Abel scored 26 points, and Todd Roberts and Tim DeArmond scored 12 apiece to lead the Cardinals.

Gardner-Edgerton 64, Ottawa 61

Ottawa – Victor Ojeleye scored 19 points, Chase Moore 13 and Brandon Turner 12 to lead the Cyclones.

Ottawa (15-5) will play a Class 5A sub-state game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Wichita West.
