Governor gets 3 names for court vacancy
Topeka ? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has been given three names from which she will fill a vacancy on the Kansas Court of Appeals.
The governor received them Thursday from the Supreme Court Nominating Commission and has 60 days to make the appointment. The commission selected the finalists from 20 applicants.
They are Glenn R. Braun, a Hays attorney and a commissioner and hearing officer with the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission; Johnson County District Judge Steve A. Leben; and Steven J. Obermeier, an assistant district attorney in Johnson County. Leben and Obermeier are from Olathe.
The vacancy was created when Judge Lee A. Johnson was appointed to the Supreme Court in January, filling the position on the seven-member court vacated by retiring Justice Donald L. Allegrucci.
