Haskell women qualify for playoffs

? Haskell Indian Nations University qualified for the MCAC playoffs Tuesday night with a 75-61 victory over McPherson Central Christian.

Haskell trailed by 15 points 10 minutes into the game, then cut the deficit to seven points at halftime. Haskell outscored Central 43-22 in the second half.

“The second half, we went to full-court pressure,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said. “We disrupted their offense. I didn’t know what to do. When you don’t know what to do, go pressure, get in their face.”

Shanda Murdock had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead the Fightin’ Indians.

“We expect that from her now,” Homeratha said.

Melissa Haag went 4-for-5, from the field, 6-for-6 from the line for 15 points.

The Indians shot 26 of 29 from the line, including 15-of-16 down the stretch.

“That’s something you can’t teach,” Homeratha said.

Haskell (14-15) will travel to Branson, Mo., this weekend for the MCAC playoffs. Haskell will face York, Neb., at 5 p.m. Friday at College of the Ozarks. Haskell split with York in the regular season.

Haskell drew the third seed in the playoffs.
