Buford Watson was to remain Lawrence city manager. The City Commission decided in his favor after a thorough job evaluation and Watson said he was “happy it’s over, and I pledge to do my best to satisfy the commission’s wishes.”

Local area farmers were complaining that the region had been “blessed” with too much moisture of late and that planting operations and other field work would be badly hindered for some time due to wet conditions.
