? Baylor coach Kim Mulkey doesn’t hesitate to put a one of her freshmen into a crucial situation.

Latara Darrett came off the bench and scored 17 points, 14 of them in the second half, to lead the No. 15 Lady Bears to a 71-56 win over Texas on Sunday.

“I’m not hesitant to put any of the rotation into the game,” Mulkey said. “That’s what happens when you’re confident. Tara (Darrett) especially had a good game today.”

Angela Tisdale added 12 and Bernice Mosby and Jhasmin Player had 10 points apiece for the Lady Bears (23-4, 10-3 Big 12), who have won four straight.

The win keeps Baylor tied for first place in the Big 12 standings with Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Baylor led 30-22 at halftime, but Texas (16-11, 5-8) opened the second half with a 6-0 run. Tiffany Jackson converted a layup for the Longhorns to tie at 38 with just over 12 minutes left.

But Baylor put together a 13-3 run to grab a 51-41 lead with 81â2 minutes remaining. Darrett, who scored 16 points in Baylor’s first meeting against the Longhorns, capped the surge with a three-pointer and a layup.

“I picked up my energy level,” Darrett said. “Once I did that I came into the game and helped my team the best I can.”

Earnesia Williams scored 16 points and Jackson finished with 12 for Texas, which has lost four straight.

“It’s frustrating,” Jackson said. “But we are really young and forget about the bad things we do a lot. We just try to keep fighting.”
