According to a new compilation by the League of Kansas Municipalities, the total property tax burden for local residents ranked in a three-way tie for lowest among the 24 first-class cities in the state. The total property tax levy in Lawrence was 122.17 mills and that just about matched the levies for Overland Park (122.1) and Shawnee (122.0). Topeka had the highest rate with 161.35 mills.
