Mizzou stings Oklahoma State

Texas A&M takes road victory against Oklahoma

? Mike Anderson’s frenetic “40 Minutes of Hell” defense claimed its biggest victory yet for Missouri.

Keon Lawrence scored 18 points, and Matt Lawrence added 15 off five three-pointers as Missouri defeated No. 18 Oklahoma State, 75-64, on Saturday to give the Tigers their first win over a ranked foe under Anderson.

“You only get confidence by winning, and that’s what it does. It gives our team some confidence,” the first-year coach said.

The Tigers pulled ahead with an 11-2 run early in the second half, and the Cowboys (19-7, 5-6 Big 12) were never able to make a run and extend their 17-game home winning streak.

“Every time they answered us, we came down and we answered,” said Keon Lawrence, who was 8-for-11 and matched his career-high with eight rebounds. “That was key. We needed to keep the crowd out of it.”

The Tigers are 3-1 since the freshman Lawrence became a starter.

“He’s a hard matchup, especially when you talk about up-tempo basketball,” Anderson said. “He was made to play, I think, attack basketball and it was really on display.”

The loss could be a crucial blow to the NCAA Tournament hopes for the Cowboys, who have lost four of their last five and don’t have a road win this season. They lost, 83-54, at Texas on Monday night.

“Right now, we’re struggling,” Oklahoma State forward Mario Boggan said. “We’re trying to fight to get in. We need some wins. Right now, we look at it as we’re not in there.”

It was Oklahoma State’s first home loss since Feb. 13, 2006, against Kansas – on the same day former coach Eddie Sutton announced he’d take a leave of absence following a drunk driving accident.

Boggan and JamesOn Curry each scored 16 and Kenny Cooper added 10 for the Cowboys, who appeared hesitant against Missouri’s pressing defense.

“We went through a period of time where we quit attacking,” Cowboys coach Sean Sutton said. “When a team presses and they do it all the time, they can sense when a team gets passive. I thought we went through a stretch where we got out of the attack mode and just were trying to get the ball up the court.”

Missouri's Matt Lawrence, right, drives past Oklahoma State's JamesOn Curry. The Tigers tripped the Cowboys, 75-64, on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.

No. 6 Texas A&M 56, Oklahoma 49

Norman, Okla. – Joseph Jones and Acie Law scored 21 points each, and Texas A&M rebounded from its second conference loss to beat Oklahoma.

Jones, despite leaving the floor with assistance twice because of minor injuries, went 8-of-12 from the field for Texas A&M (22-4, 10-2 Big 12), which maintained its spot atop the conference standings. Jones’ point total matched his second highest of the season.

Texas 68, Baylor 67

Waco, Texas – Kevin Durant can lead Texas to victory even when he struggles. Durant went more than 20 minutes without scoring and finished only 5-of-16 shooting, but the freshman sensation still had 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Longhorns beat Baylor for their 19th straight victory in the instate rivalry.

D.J. Augustin had 11 points, plus an ally-oop pass off the backboard to Durant with 9 minutes left for a one-handed slam that got a little help from the rim and gave the Longhorns (19-7, 9-3 Big 12) a 53-52 lead.

Baylor (12-13, 2-10) led only once more after that.

Texas Tech 95, Colorado 74

Lubbock, Texas – Jarrius Jackson scored 28 points to lead Texas Tech. The win was the second straight for Tech, which beat No. 6 Texas A&M earlier this week to snap a five-game skid. Tech (17-10, 6-6 Big 12) was sharp from three-point range, hitting 11 of 25, and led by double digits for much of the game. The Red Raiders took their largest lead at 64-38 when Martin Zeno hit two free throws with more than 10 minutes left in the game.

Kansas State 65, Iowa State 47

Manhattan – David Hoskins scored 20 points, and Kansas State used a big second-half run to beat Iowa State.

Cartier Martin added 17 points for Kansas State (19-8, 8-4 Big 12), including two three-pointers during the decisive 22-6 spurt, which broke a 22-all tie and gave the Wildcats their first series sweep of the Cyclones since 1999.
