Man injured in wreck released from hospital

The man injured in the Cat Tracker fan bus accident in November in Lawrence was released from the hospital this week and has returned home to Salina.

Bob Hallinan, a spokesman for Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., said Friday that Orr was released from the rehabilitation wing of the hospital Sunday after he had spent almost one month there.

His friend Andy Stanton, of Hays, said Orr has returned home to Salina with his family, but he said he did not know any other specifics about Orr’s condition.

Orr, a Kansas State University graduate, had been hospitalized after the accident on Iowa Street while riding atop the fan bus – which is not affiliated with the university – before the Nov. 18 football game against Kansas University.

Orr and John Green, of Shawnee, struck their heads on an overpass in the 1800 block of Iowa Street. Green died at the scene.

Salina resident Brent Simonsson was driving the bus on a restricted license that did not allow him to drive commercial vehicles.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said Friday that his office was in the process of speaking with Orr and family members. Branson said he had no timeline for filing charges in the case.
