KCK center to be sold

? Forest products company Weyerhaeuser will sell some of its building materials distribution centers in the U.S. – including one in Kansas City, Kan., and another in Newton – and all such operations in Canada, officials said Friday.

The sales are be part of continuing efforts to pare Weyerhaeuser Co.’s wide-ranging operations, “to sharpen the focus of our portfolio and enhance shareholder value,” said Lee Alford, a company vice president.

In recent months, Weyerhaeuser has closed plants and made other drastic moves aimed at pleasing shareholders, including the pending merger of its fine-paper business with the Canadian company Domtar.

In a statement, Weyerhaeuser said it was in preliminary talks with an unidentified buyer for 10 of its U.S. distribution sites, which deal in lumber, plywood, roofing and other building materials.
