Christopher and Gaylene Huff, Independence, Mo., announce the birth of their son, Trevor Samuel Huff, born Jan. 23, 2007. Trevor is the grandson of Roy and Jean Gilliam, Lawrence.

¢Brian and Natasha North, Baldwin City, announce the birth of their daughter, Lylah Adison North, born Feb. 4, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. She joins brothers Coltin and Riley Thomas. Grandparents are Harry and Betty North, Baldwin City; Karen and Jerry Haynes, Florida; and Ed and Victoria Luby, Emporia. Great-grandparents are Ed and Hilda Luby, Ingleside, Ill.; and Gwendolyn and Floyd Dorsey, Wamego.

¢Paula and Tyler Dumas, Gilbert, Ariz., announce the birth of their daughter, Peyton Camille Dumas, born Feb. 5, 2007, at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. She joins her brother, Tanner, 7, and sisters, Kelsey, 9, and Kylie, 5. Maternal grandparents are Jay and Janet Cowan, Phoenix. Paternal grandparents are Arnie and Karen Johnson, Lawrence, and Gary and Deb Dumas, Topeka.

¢Sun Young Yoon, a student at Bishop Seabury Academy, received an outstanding (I) rating at the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s Regional Piano Festival on Feb. 3 at Baker University. She is eligible to attend the state piano festival today at Wichita State University.

¢Kathryn Loyd, Lawrence, has been elected president of the Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Kansas University. She will represent the chapter at the sorority’s province meeting on March 2-4 at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

Loyd, a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School, is the daughter of Herb and Peggy Loyd, Lawrence.

¢Nicholas Bergmann was named to the Kansas University honor roll for grades achieved during the fall 2006 semester. He is a freshman in the School of Engineering. Bergmann is the son of Donna Bergmann, Perry, and Kent Bergmann, Shawnee; and the grandson of Joseph Scraper, Baldwin City, and Glenn and Evelyn Bergmann, Shawnee.

¢Cordley School won trophies at two separate chess tournaments on Feb. 10, claiming first place in K-5 at the Oakhill Day School Scholastic tournament at the Chess Club in North Kansas City, Mo., and third place in K-6 at the Prairie View High School tournament in La Cygne.

Cordley’s Eddie Wilson won the individual first place trophy at the Oakhill tournament, while Wakarusa Valley’s Cal Young finished fourth.

At the La Cygne tournament, Lawrence medal winners were Central Junior High’s Roy Wedge, third in K-12; and Cordley’s Byron McClelland and George Wedge, eighth and ninth, respectively, in K-6.

¢Several area students were honored for grades achieved during the fall 2006 semester at Highland Community College. Students named to the President’s Honor List for earning a 4.0 grade-point average include Anthony Foust, Michele Kelin and John Landon, all of Lawrence; Rebecca Griffitts, McLouth; and Krystle Barthol, Wellsville.

Students named to the Dean’s Honor List for earning a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 include Rebecca Copeland, Lawrence; and Derek Aldrich, Amanda Gorden and Anna Gorden, all of Perry.

¢Tim Obiefule, a member of the Baker University Symphonic Band, was selected to perform in the Kansas Intercollegiate Band, which will perform Friday at the Kansas Music Educators Workshop in Wichita. Obiefule, of Lawrence, plays the contra-alto clarinet.
