4-H and FCE news

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Paula Johnson. Kay Ellen Hess will give the lesson on “Men’s Health: A Guide to Peak Performance.”

¢Douglas County Family and Community Education is offering the program “Building Bridges Within Our Communities” at 1:30 p.m. March 2 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. The free program is open to the public. Registration is requested by calling 843-7058 by Friday.

¢The Meadowlark 4-H Club met Jan. 9 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Will Pendleton called the meeting to order, and members answered roll call by naming their favorite winter sport. The group sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and practiced for the model meeting at County Club Days. Kathy Klocke-Kennard handed out packets showing how the model meetings will be judged.

Shelby Miller gave a council report. Louis Hamel gave the treasurer’s report, saying that no bills needed to be paid. Drew Fox showed the Valentine’s cards and Chinese New Year’s lanterns for the Meals on Wheels program. Bruce Evans gave the leaders’ report, noting that new income will be needed because the Garden Show won’t be conducted this year.

T.K. Pracht talked about the swim meet before the meeting and invited members to the next meet. The Food Fair is set for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. today at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 21. Members closed the meeting by saying the club pledge and motto.

¢The Stull Busy Beavers met Jan. 8. The meeting was called to order by President Adam Lesser. Members answered roll call by naming a Kansas fact. The group prepared for County Club Days. Members interested in the club skit were asked to talk to Pam Johnston. The next meeting was set for Feb. 12 at Stull United Methodist Church.

¢The Douglas County 4-H Council’s meeting Dec. 18 was called to order by President Wesley Callahan. The roll call and minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved by temporary secretary Kahlyn Heine. Treasurer Whitney Box gave her report and presented the proposed budget for the upcoming year. Agent Emily Morehouse and Program Coordinator Kjrsten Abel Ruch gave their report about County Club Days and upcoming events.

The primary and secondary committees met. By-laws members asked to organize amendments. Achievement Night members looked for ideas. Concession Stand members said the clubs need to start looking for day managers. National 4-H Week members are seeking ways to attract new members in schools. Friendship Night will be an Ice Cream Social with a date to be announced.

The council will meet again Sunday.
