Veritas boys win, girls fall

— Veritas Christian turned a seven-point deficit into a seven-point victory Thursday night in high school boys basketball.

The Eagles defeated Flint Hills Christian, 56-49, after trailing 37-30 entering the fourth quarter.

"We finally woke up," Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. "We played extremely lethargic for three quarters. Finally, we came to life."

Michael Kay scored 24 points and had five steals to lead Veritas. Micah Barclay added 13 points, Josh Masrud scored eight points, and Nathan Hammer snared eight rebounds for Veritas.

The Eagles connected on 14 of 18 free-throw attempts.

"That was crucial in the last two to three minutes," Bennett said.

Veritas (3-18) will entertain Topeka Heritage at 3:30 Saturday in Eudora.

Flint Hills Christian girls 38, Veritas 33

Manhattan - Taelyr Shelton scored nine points, and Caroline Mayhew and Marteka Carlton scored six apiece, but Veritas Christian fell to Flint Hills Christian, 38-33, on Thursday night in high school girls basketball.

"We didn't play real well tonight," Kevin Shelton said. "We had difficulty stopping their inside game."

The Eagles (7-13) will entertain Topeka Heritage at 2 p.m. Saturday in Eudora.
