Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 14, 1907: “The proposition to sell 600 lots at $400 each to raise money to secure the O.S. Kelley implement plant will be discarded due to the length of time to see everyone and sell bonds and lots. There is no intention of letting the matter of bringing the plant here drop, but new plans will have to be developed before much more progress can be made. Such a plant could so wonders for the city. : A trickster who was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk here during the parade to promote the local minstrel show has been fined for endangering spectators. He seems to have been carried away with his antics and frightened many. : It is being tried in court here, the insanity plea that seems to popular in the East. We can only hope judges and juries can see through shams. : “
