West rolls over Ottawa to advance to second round

West took its first step in reclaiming the Warhawk trophy Monday night with a convincing 57-42 win over Ottawa in the opening game of the Warhawk Invitational Monday afternoon at West Junior High.

The Cyclones played the Warhawks tight through most of the first half, as they went into the locker room down only three, 26-23. But West switched to a 3-2 zone in the second half, putting an end to the visitors hopes of a win. The Warhawks outscored the Cyclones 17-4 in the quarter. Adam Petz led the way for the Warhawks with 12 points, while Ryan Scott had nine. Evan Sloan added eight points in the win. The Warhawks will play Blue Valley Northwest Wednesday.
