The Bulldogs narrowly missed a trip to the loser’s bracket Monday night as they needed a long distance rescue to beat Shawnee Mission South, 46-40, in the first round of the Warhawk Invitational at West Junior High.

Trailing by two with less than two minutes to go, Southwest’s Nick Hassig and Daniel Chance combined for three 3-pointers to push the Bulldogs into the second round.

Southwest was led by Chance who had 12 points, while Drake DiBiasse added 11. Nick Hassig finished the first round effort with nine. The Bulldogs will play Wednesday against the winner of South and Saint Thomas Aquinas.
