Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 11, 1907: “From Washington comes the word that Irving Hill has been appointed local postmaster to succeed George J. Barker, whose term expires soon. Hill is the son-in-law of J.D. Bowersock and for the past few years has been manage of his milling interests here. Mr. Hill has always taken an active role in local events and is a hustler who will doubtless be an excellent postmaster. George Barker did an excellent job and will now concentrate on his law practice. : A member of a prominent family in Jefferson County has been arrested and charged with forgery. It seems has done the same thing in the past.”
