Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 10, 1907: “Eggs and the mercury in thermometers have been traveling divergent routes of late. Temperatures had been dropping while the prices of eggs have been going upward and many are now paying at least 28 cents per dozen. It is rare to find eggs at the more favorable recent price of 20 cents. Producers say the cold weather has caused the shortage and the sharp price rise. : When your gas bill seems too high, it could be due to a leak or improper installation. Either can be avoided if the work is done by competent men. : The Topeka Commercial Club has withdrawn its support for a World’s Fair in Kansas in 1911. The Topeka scheme was never well-conceived and there is no surprise about the demise of the project. :The turn-down electric lamp and the movable light are becoming increasingly popular in homes here and they seem to be so simple and easy to use that even a child can handle them.”
