Math instructor named Teacher of the Month

A longtime Lawrence teacher was recognized Friday as Sunflower Bank’s Teacher of the Month.

Ginny Turvey, a Broken Arrow School fourth-grade math and science teacher who has taught at the school for 30 years, was honored in a surprise assembly.

“She is enthusiastic, entertaining, listens to her students and encourages different solutions to problems in the subject matter she teaches,” said David Bunker, bank vice president and commercial lender. “She works hard to engage her students.”

Turvey received a $200 cash prize and trophy. She was recommended for the monthly honor by fellow teachers and parents of some students, Bunker said.

Turvey will be in the running for the bank’s Teacher of the Year honors, Bunker said.

Anyone who would like to recommend someone for Teacher of the Month can submit a letter of nomination to the bank, 1201 Wakarusa Drive.
