HINU women victorious

Kortney Smith scored 17 points, one of six Haskell Indian Nations University players in double figures, as the Fightin’ Indians executed well on offense both before and after the break in a 93-83 women’s basketball victory Tuesday against Peru State (Neb.) College at Coffin Complex.

HINU (12-13) shot 54 percent from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 47-30 lead, then shot 52 percent after halftime to hold off Peru State (6-18).

In addition to Smith, the Fightin’ Indians received strong scoring efforts from Shara Brown (15 points), Margaret Stevens (15), Shanda Murdoch (13), Amber Tecumseh (13) and Melissa Haag (10).
