Voter message

February 6, 2007

To the editor:

I have just read about President Bush's latest request for funds to support his war. This outrageous request will cost every man, woman and child $800 and require cuts in Medicare and Medicaid. This last year the voters - Republicans and Democrats - did the impossible by electing enough Democrats to control the House and the Senate. It was a very loud and very clear message that we could no longer tolerate George Bush's dictatorship.

But Bush and Cheney didn't listen and said, "We don't care what the people in America or Iraq want, we are going to feed more bodies into this meat grinder."

I am no longer surprised by anything these jokers do. What does shock me is that the people we sent to Washington cannot, or will not, do everything possible to take our country back. They don't seem to have the courage to stand up and say enough is enough.

We do have justification for impeachment:

¢ Secret torture prisons in Eastern Europe.

¢ Thousands of Blackwater mercenaries.

¢ Billions of dollars spent on no-bid contracts let out to their old-boy network.

At the very least, it might get their attention.

E. Kent Hayes,

Lawrence

"Don't blame it on W."

Where should the buck stop, RT?

How is this spending going to reduce Medicare or Medicaid? That is a pretty dumb statement.

Bruce Bertsch 8 years, 4 months ago

Bush's proposed budget cuts medicare payments to doctors and hospitals and cuts medicade reimbursementsto the states. Nothing clandestine, just watch something other than Fox News.

BTW, his cuts to services are on budget, while the Iraq war is off budget, so he gets to claim he is reducing the deficit while actually increasing it. Not even Bubba tried that nonsense. If you want true Homeland Security, quit selling our war debt to the Chinese and put forth a program to reduce our dependence on middle eastern oil. At least then we won't be funding both sides of the war on terror.

There was a report on MSNBC about President Bush (who I didn't vote for) slashing health care funds. However, on further review, and discussed on CNN, it is not an actual cut, rather slowing the rate of growth from 7.6 % to 6.7%. So my question, HOW IS THIS SLASHING FUNDING??? It is not!

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 8 years, 4 months ago

"HOW IS THIS SLASHING FUNDING???"

Ever heard of inflation, especially inflation in healthcare that's running considerably faster than in nearly all other sectors of the economy?

Anything less than a 10% increase will lead to a cut in availbale services.

But, hey, our War President has wars to pay for. Let 'em eat cake.

"I preserved it enough so my siblings and I got a nice chunk of inheritance, not that I need it."

So, you admit to sucking off the government teat.

dagopman 8 years, 4 months ago

A 6.7% increase in still an increase. The government can't and shouldn't be everything to everyone.

"The government can't and shouldn't be everything to everyone."

Unless you're a BushCo partner getting no-bid contracts.

Proamerica: Your 7:15 post is so insightful as to your ability to express opinions.
. I know E. Kent Hays. I may not agree with everything he believes, but I know he is a very intelligent, gifted, caring individual. And very thoughtful in his beliefs and opinions. I listen to him to understand his views. He also has the courage to place his name next to his opinions.. unlike most of us. . Keep it civil here folks.

" $568 of my mothers' $1356 monthly income"

What was the source of the income, and for what purpose was the $568?

KS 8 years, 4 months ago

bozo - the hisghest the inflation rate has been in this country since 2000 is 2.8 %. Hardly a 10% number.

"Anything less than a 10% increase will lead to a cut in availbale services"

How in the world can you come up with that?

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 8 years, 4 months ago

"bozo - the hisghest the inflation rate has been in this country since 2000 is 2.8 %. Hardly a 10% number."

Check inflation on the medical sector. It's considerably higher than overall inflation.

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 8 years, 4 months ago

So, if she hadn't applied for Medicare, the deduction wouldn't have occurred. Yep, you were sucking off the govt. teat, alright, you socialist right_thinker.

Actually, I prefer to describe myself as a socialist libertarian who supports a true free market of small, independent entrepreneurs.

dagopman 8 years, 4 months ago

To Just Another Bozo....

I called the American Medical Association and the medical inflation rate is 6.6%. Call them yourself if you wish to verify.

"and require cuts in Medicare and Medicaid. "

Funny! If the Amazonian butterfly can't flap its wings, the puppy will have to die.

How is it that "sustainable development" is a mantra of socialists but the concept of sustainability can never been applied to anything involving government?

Leftwing dictionary: cuts - a process of slowing out-of-control and unsustainable increases.

What is worse than this budget per se is the fact that it is financed with foreign debt and is the basis of our economy. We are a nation of consumers and actually produce very little. Our economy is mostly based on the medical industry, education industry, government and insurance. What we consider to be "productivity" is just moving this money around. Eventually the foreign money is going to stop and in order to maintain our standard of living we are going to have to go to war. It's not going to take a lot to beat us at war, so we will take our rightful place among the third world nations. This is what 25 years of Republican greed has done to our nation. Their simple formula has been "talk the talk of righteousness, walk the walk of greed."

"Why do you hate America so? Oh, that's right. Part of the "Blame America First" rabble."

He doesn't hate America. He hates the fact that your boys are ruining anything good that this country could ever lay claim to.

dagopman 8 years, 4 months ago

The proposal is to increase funding 6.7% above current levels. The requested proposal had been 7.6%. It is still an increase.

mick 8 years, 4 months ago

97.6237% of Americans would be better off if this was a third world Country.
