Nature center classes to study rainforest

The Prairie Park Nature Center will have two classes highlighting the wonders of rainforests.

On Wednesday, a program called “Rain forest Showoffs – Colorful Creatures of the Rain forest,” will be conducted. The focus will be on rainbow-colored animals found in the rainforest and why they are becoming extinct.

On Feb. 21, a program about “Rain forest Treasurers – Nature’s Wal-Mart,” will be held. It will investigate foods, medicines and valuable materials that the rainforest provides. Children will also learn how to make their own chewing gum.

Both programs are designed for children ages 7 to 12. They will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the nature center, 2730 Harper St.

The cost to attend the programs is $5.
